Bringing That Luxury Hotel Feeling Into Your Bedroom

Many of us are willing to spend a little more to get that luxury hotel experience; when we sink into a sumptuously supportive luxury mattress, feel the soft quality carpet against our feet when we get up and treat our senses to an amazing awakening in a spa-like bathroom. It’s that taste of luxury we all crave whenever we go on holiday.

But what about when the holiday is over? And that luxurious feeling disappears as we step back into a cluttered bedroom, staring at an unmade bed and shed a tear over the missing morsel of chocolate, which isn’t waiting on your pillow? This may lead to you struggling to get to sleep and feeling restless.

Don’t worry, no matter your budget, you can capture a piece of that exquisite experience in your own bedroom it simply takes a few clever bedroom design steps.

Make your bathroom brilliant

Okay, this first one technically isn’t part of the bedroom but your bathroom is still a major part of replicating that luxury hotel feeling. Yours should be just as serene and tranquil as some of the best hotels you’ve stayed at. In fact, we find that a luxurious bath before bed is the best way to help you drift off to sleep.

Now, this doesn’t mean spending crazy amounts of money getting yourself a glass-enclosed, walk-in shower with full-body jets, a double set of deep sinks with large mirrors, or heated towel racks and flooring. Attaining a lavish bathroom is easier than that; simply get yourself a colourful shower curtain, a few plush towels, some lavish soaps and scented candles. Fill your bath with bubbles, dim the lights and before you know it, you’ll feel like you’re in paradise.

bedroom candles

Speaking of candles, they are actually one of the easiest ways to create a more luxurious atmosphere in your bedroom. Some scented candles may seem pricey, but even purchasing a small high-quality candle with a longer burn time will help that luxury feel last.

When selecting some scented candles, go for the more homely fragrances, such as fig, citrus, and floral scents on warmer days, and sandalwood, firewood, and cedar scents when the nights grow colder.

Don’t forget fresh flowers and greenery

Without a doubt, fresh flowers can instantly make things fancier. A hotel-like feel won’t be achievable without adding a touch of greenery to your sleep space. Every high-end hotel out there makes use of some amazing, aromatic arrangements so why shouldn’t you?

You don’t have to splash the cash either to attain this green aesthetic, as the simpler arrangements are often better. Go for some low-maintenance house plants, such as succulents, or low fuss elegant orchids. They require very little watering but will work to add vibrancy to your bedroom and purify the air for a better night’s sleep. Remember to avoid the heavy pollen options, like lilies which can stain bedding with their pollen.

Pick a peaceful colour palette

Never forget that the colour of your bedroom can be crucial when it comes to attaining that luxurious feeling, which helps you drift off the sleep. Picking the right paint colour is important in every room in the house, but especially where you relax the most.

Neutral colours are certainly the way to go, as they lead to a calmer, more serene sense of mind. Consider decorating your bedroom with a soft, neutral palette of pale blues, beiges, and creamy whites. Along with neutral coloured drapery and upholstery, this can work together to create a peaceful space, where you feel like you can escape from the day. You can also use bedding as an accent colour to help draw your eye to your handmade mattress.

Think about the little luxuries

It’s not just about the decor and the bedding that makes something feel luxurious it’s all the little details too. And you can replicate this effect really easily, by adding a few tiny touches to make yourself feel like you’re in a hotel bedroom.

A few examples include leaving a water carafe and glass on your bedside table, investing in a sound machine to help create a more serene atmosphere or adding a simple stack of interesting books and magazines to read.

Choose the right lighting

Lavish lighting is a great way to capture a piece of that luxury experience, and a nice hotel room is never dark or dreary. We’re not saying you have to go all out on chandeliers, side lamps, wall sconces, art lights and mood lighting – but you can certainly achieve the mood you want with some little adjustments.

Have a dimmer installed if you don’t have one already, as this way you can tweak the lighting to suit your mood. Add some nice-looking lamps to your side tables, perhaps with shades lined with gold for a touch of glamour.

Consider all the uses of your bedroom; is it just a sleeping space? or is it a makeshift yoga studio? A home office? Or the place you go to quieten your mind and read? Whatever it is, choose lighting solutions that fit.
