The firmness of the mattress you desire is determined by a few factors. Your weight and height, and the mattress of your choice. The upholstery layers are the very top comfort layers and give different degrees of firmness alongside the spring unit. The higher up in the list the mattress is, the firmer it will be in the top upholstery layers. The lower down the list, the softer the initial upholstery layers will feel.
The Origins Comfort is a softer feel mattress with medium support.
First Layer: 750GSM Very Soft Polyester: This is the primary comfort layer directly beneath the fabric. In its loose state the depth of this material is about 3″ in depth. When the mattress is sewn up and tufted this will be naturally compressed giving you a perfect comfort but also working with the support from the underlying layers.
Second Layer: 500GSM Polyester Pad: This is a relatively firm pad and used primarily as support for the subsequent softer layer.
Third Layer: One inch foam insulator: Directly on top of the spring unit we use a one inch layer of HD foam. This cushions all the fillings from the spring unit but also works with you enabling the pocket springs to rise and fall as you move.
The mattress (Side Panel) depth is 10″ plus the undulations caused by the multi layers of wadding brings the height to a more realistic 13″ deep. The side panels are machine stitched and finished in a complimentary durable fabric. The mattress cover is a premium soft knit Silk content fabric.

Origins Platform divan bases are 12″ with or without drawers 2″ for Glides not Castors making 14″ total height.
The drawers on the Origins are 32″ wide, 20″ deep and 9″ high.
You can have 2 or 4 drawer options. If using bedside tables you may want to have 2 full size and 2 continental drawers so the drawers next to the bedside tables can be opened fully. Continental drawers will have the same depth and height as the normal, but width will be 17.5 inches.

The Origins Comfort is supportive to a level at what we would class as a ‘true medium’ based on average body weight. Not too firm and not too soft. Saying that this is the softest mattress we do use different densities of polyester in the comfort layer. To build softer at this price could only mean a reduction in fillings.

We’ve now two mattresses and will want a third!
We’ve now bought two mattresses from JR. The first we bought for ourselves after they were recommended by a friend and after a year it is still as the day we bought it. This purchase was for our spare room, we initially thought we’d just buy a cheap mattress as it’s used infrequently, but the saying ‘buy cheap buy twice’ sprang to mind and after such exceptional service we couldn’t consider anywhere else.
We only live in a 2 bed, but I’m sure when we expand, we’ll be buying a third 🙂

origins 1000 comfort mattress king
Very pleased with our new origins 1000 comfort mattress. Researched this buy thoroughly and was very thankful for all the info on John Ryan site and advice given by them. We received it two weeks after order, pleased with delivery service who also took away our old mattress. As we have only had the mattress two weeks we are still in the settling in period. Other half took to it straightaway, I find it much better than old one and helpful with health issues, this is designated at the softer end of mattress guage but has plenty of support. We bought a king zip and link which makes it so much easier to handle. As we use a John Lewis microfibre topper we are completely unaware of the join. Thank you John Ryan.

Origins Comfort 1000
I took delivery of this mattress a week ago. The quality of the mattress is exceptional and represents excellent value for money. It is rather firm at the moment as I weigh just 9st but I am hoping it will soften in time as I am a side and back sleeper, I suffer from severe scoliosis. Consequently the mattress needs to be soft. I purchased this mattress as the John Ryan by Design website states it is suitable for side sleepers with a back problem.

JohnRyan provided us with brilliant customer service when purchasing the Origins Comfort 1000 Kingsize mattress.
When ordering on the phone, they made sure we were ordering the right mattress to fit both me and my partner. We needed the order to arrive on a specific date and they were the only mattress company that would help us with it – really helpful!
However, on the day, the courier delivered us a wrong mattress and told us the delivery would be rescheduled.
When I called JohnRyan to tell them what happened, Julie sorted it out immediately and we had our mattress delivered on the same day.
