The firmness of the mattress you desire is determined by a few factors. Your weight and height, and the mattress of your choice. The upholstery layers are the very top comfort layers and give different degrees of firmness alongside the spring unit. The higher up in the list the mattress is, the firmer it will be in the top upholstery layers. The lower down the list, the softer the initial upholstery layers will feel.
The Reflex is a firm feel in the upholstery layers for those wanting a firmer mattress.
First Layer: 750GSM Very soft Polyester. This is the primary comfort layer directly beneath the fabric. In its loose state the depth of this material is about 3″ in depth. When the mattress is sewn up and tufted this will be naturally compressed giving you a perfect comfort but also working with the support from the preceding layers.
Second Layer: Further One-inch foam layer: This becomes the third layer increasing the durability aspect but also aiding the support element.
Third Layer: 270GSM Polyester: This is the buffer between the two sheets of foam. Provides ventilation and also reduces the firmness that two sheets of foam on top of each other would naturally give.
Fourth Layer: One Inch foam Insulator: Directly on top of the spring unit we use a one-inch layer of HD foam. This cushions you from the spring unit but also works with you enabling the pocket springs to rise and fall as you move.
The mattress side panels are machine stitched. Traditionally hand-tufted. Even though the mattress side panels are 10″ deep, the undulations caused by the abundant upholstery brings the mattress depth to a more realistic 13″.

I was very pleased with the attention I received the beds arrived double bagged which was highly sensible and necessary and I would not have thought of it myself. They arrived on time I personally thought they looked great. Here follows the comments from my 2 guests who have slept on them.
Ruth – We have spent the last 3 nights on the beds and they are very comfortable , with a slight hammock/water bed feeling that lets you sink into the mattress and is very conducive to a good nights rest. They are a little high which needs to be remembered if you’re not used to it!

We have bought a couple of beds from John and the team this year. Their customer service is truly outstanding. One bed was an Artisan Naturals zip & link superking with different tensions & a special size to fit our existing frame, and a double Origins Pocket Reflex for our daughter. The beds are fantastic quality and we go to bed knowing we have bought the best beds we could afford. We purchased 4 x zip & link mattresses and bases for our two holiday lets about 2 years ago. Business has been extremely busy so the mattresses have been well used. They are still like new and we regularly have guests commenting on the bed comfort. Having spent a month in one of the holiday lets ourselves during house renovations and trying out the mattress, we are now considering purchasing for ourselves. Lovely mattress! I had an Origins 1500 which I liked very much, but which just had a tad too much ‘sink in’ feeling in the top layers for my liking (but it was an exquisitely luxurious mattress and I was reluctant to return it) so I took the risk and swapped for a Reflex 1000. This mattress is perfect for me – very supportive, a firmer feel with less ‘sink in’ than the Origins 1500 but still a nice feeling of deeply cushioned and supportive comfort. Spot on!! The new mattress smell (fire retardants I’m guessing) took much longer to go than the previous mattress, but its fine now and I’m hoping this mattress will last a very long time because its fabulously comfortable! Customer service as ever, utterly faultless and I hope this company last a long time too, because when I do need a new mattress I know where I will be buying from! No more John Lewis, Dreams, Bensons etc. and all the pushy sales techniques!!
