we have a king size bed with a Vi Spring medium soft mattress. It is 15 yrs old and always been comfortable. we now need a new mattress and feel a slightly firmer type would be more suitable . We are aged 80yrs and 76yrs weight 12stone and 9stone.

Hello Mrs Allen,

Thank you for your question.

As you have been sleeping on a Vi Spring mattress, I would recommend that you look at our Artisan Range of Mattresses which have a similar feel to certain of the Vi Spring mattresses.

The first four in our Artisan Range all have a medium feel in the upholstery layers, so not too soft nor too firm, the difference between them is the amount of natural fillings.   The Artisan 1500 has 50/50 natural fillings, the Artisan Tailored Pocket 2000 and the Artisan Naturals both have 85% and the Artisan Bespoke 004 has 100% natural fillings.  I have attached links to all of these mattresses for you to have a look at.  Although the Artisan Tailored Pocket 2000 and the Artisan Naturals both have the same upholstery fillings, they do however have difference spring units. The Artisan Tailored Pocket 2000 has a more manufactured spring unit which gives the mattress a slightly firmer tension whereas the Artisan Naturals has calico encased pocket springs which are more breathable.

At your body weights, I would recommend a medium tension for you both although you would need to check what tension your Vi Spring mattress is.

We do pair our Artisan mattresses with a sprung divan base, however, they can go onto any base.  If the mattress goes on to a more solid base, this will firm the mattress up again.

We hope the above is of assistance to you but please do not hesitate to contact our office for further information on 0161 945 3757.

Kind regards Julie
