Hi Tony,

Sorry to hear you are not getting on with your mattress.

It definitely sounds like you’re suffering from a case of night sweats which can be caused by a number of factors. This can be caused by a number of things, such as room temperature, tog of the duvet or the mattress upholstery and construction method.

I’m going to focus on the mattress part as I’m guessing you’ve changed your bedding and made sure your heating isn’t on full wack during the night! Without knowing the exact composition of the mattress or the upholstery my advice is somewhat limited. As a general rule of thumb, natural fibres are less heat retentive and more breathable than synthetic fibres such as polyester and foams.

If the mattress contains memory foam it will retain heat and many people complain of this. We have written a really detailed article on this and how to avoid it which can be found here.

I’d advise you have a look at the articles and also at whats inside the mattress to assess how best to reduce the heat retention its causing. If it is a memory foam mattress then other than changing bedding and cooling the room there is little that can be done to remove the heat retention, unfortunately!

Let us know if we can help further especially if you can provide us with a detailed breakdown of the GSMs of what is inside your new mattress.

Kind regards Julie
