24 stone help with mattress

Karen asked
16th February 2015

Hi John. I’m looking for a king size mattress for a slatted bed frame. I’m 5’6″ and weigh around 24 stone. I do havw some lower vack pain at times. I’m happy to pay up to £1,500 to get the right mattress, but will have to do this on an ‘interest free credit’ deal as I can’t afford to pay it in one go. As a guest at friends’ houses I’ve loved the comfort of a sprung mattress with a deep layer of memory foam, and am considering the Sealy Hybrid Series 800 Mattress from John Lewis. Do you thing this would be suitable for me?
Unfortunately I can’t consider one of your mattresses as you don’t offer the payment plan I would need, and frankly I’m bamboozled by all the information that’s available on mattresses!
Thank you.

Total Depth32.5cm + 3-5 cm for the quilted cover
Resilience 2

15cm of 70kg 100% Natural Latex
25cm V39 Medium Support Foam

Mattress manufactures won’t guarantee a mattress for an individual over 18 stone, something they’ve probably ‘forgot to tell you’.

At 24 stone you need support that has a longer life span than standard materials.

Normal foams and geltex will deteriorate very quickly as they are not made with these weights in mind I’m afraid.

Also spring tensions are dictated by weight and are made for certain tolerances.

At 24 stone you would need an extra firm spring tension if you were going for springs.

Without this over time the springs will quickly compress and failt o give you the support you need.

I understand you’re limited by a mattress available on credit but wanted to give you all the information you need to consider so you don’t get bamboozled or sold something that won’t be guaranteed by a manufacturer.

Hope that helps – John Ryan 0161 437 4419
