Artisan Luxury vs Bespoke 004

Good Evening,
After many months research of mattresses and reading through your very helpful information pages my partner and I have managed to whittle down our choice to two products:
1) Artisan Luxury (ViSprung Devonshire)
2) Artisan Bespoke 004 (Visprung Regal Superb)
During my research I compared your Artisan models to the above closest comparisons. I noticed some interesting points about the Visprung prices.
Luxury can be bought for £1605 (King Size)
Devonshire can be bought for £1675 (King Size)
Bespoke 004 can be bought for £1460 (King Size)
Regal Superb can be bought for £3245 (King Size)
Obviously from this we can see that the Luxury and Devonshire are very much in a similar price range whereas the Bespoke and Regal are worlds apart.
I was initially leaning towards the Luxury give it’s described softer feel. However looking at the price difference in the Visprung alternatives I have to question why the feel of the Regal Superb is £1600 more than the Devonshire.
I know it’s often said that it is not all about money, but it feels like you’re on that basis getting far, far more for your money with the Bespoke 004.
I would appreciate some input on the above as it is causing me a great deal of concern over which mattress to proceed with. We do feel like a soft mattress but obviously are worried about settlement or the layers and don’t want it to cause us pain through lack of support. Thank you for any help you can offer.
Background:
We have a terribly cheap mattress right now. I am 5″11 and weigh 79kg. My partner is 5″4 and weights 54kgs. From your site we were thinking of a medium / soft split mattress .
I have posted a separate question with regards to the Bespoke 004 vs Luxury. I did however have a further question about toppers.
I have read some answers to your questions suggesting the softer option mattress (Luxury) and it if is too soft use of a latex mattress topper to firm up a little. I have then read a different answer suggesting going with the firmer Bespoke 004 and then using a topper to soften it (as there is no way to firm up the mattress – obviously this conflicts with the above statement).
I have then read a further few answers some of where you say to defiantly use a mattress topper (prolongs life/adds comfort etc) and others where it is suggesting seeing how the mattress feels before deciding if you need one – again contradicts.
Could I just confirm the position on mattress toppers? Should I be looking to purchese one with the mattress. Given that my partner and I like a softer feel – what mattress topper would you recommend? Would your latex topper provide this?

Hi Steven

Thanks for your enquiry.

What you have noticed in the pricing is quite correct but the difference is in the upholstery layers, the Artisan Luxury has 4600g of upholstery per side of the mattress, compared to 2600g of upholstery per side of the Vi spring Devonshire. So even tough the pricing is similar, you get 2000g extra upholstery per side of the mattress, so a lot more for your money.

The difference between the Vi Spring Regal Superb and the Artisan Bespoke 004 is minimal, with the Artisan having 3600g of upholstery compared to 3100g in the Vi spring, so only 500g difference.

So this is the reason the Artisan Luxury costs more than the Artisan Bespoke 004 in our range, as it has 1000g extra upholstery per side of the mattress.

If you want a soft mattress the Artisan Luxury is definitely softer than the Artisan Bespoke 004. The support in a mattress comes from the pocket springs and at your body weights a medium for you, and a soft for your wife would be ideal.

I would say don’t buy a topper until you have slept on your new mattress for at least 3-4 weeks just using a mattress protector, before you decide if you want to add a mattress topper to soften the feel of the mattress more.

All mattress toppers add an extra layer to sink into, and soften the feel to some extent, latex and foam toppers have a more supportive consistency, than toppers filled with fibres which offer a more cushioning feel.
