Backache in upper back with mattress

Amit asked
18th April 2017

Earlier I had backache with my memory foam mattress, therefore recently we bought a Pocket sprung(1400 springs) King size very form mattress and on top I have a topper. Now with this new mattress, my lower back pain has gone but my upper back pain(below neck) has started. would you suggest what my be the reason for this and how to get rid of this pain.
thanks in advance.

Hi Amit,

Thank you for your enquiry.

The main consideration when choosing a mattress should be the body weights of the people using it.

BodyweightSpring tension
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kgMedium (1.4mm)
16 Stone / 101kg UpwardsFirm (1.6mm)
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call)Soft (1.2mm)

We note that you confirm that you have a very firm mattress to which you have applied a topper, but the pain has now transferred to your lower neck.

It is possible that although the topper is providing relief in your lower back, it may not be providing the same level of softness/comfort for your neck area, because the mattress overall is too firm.

Also, the firmness of the mattress will be affected by whatever type of bed base it is placed on and it may be worth looking at changing that to a sprung base if it is a solid base.
