Hi Rosamund,

Thanks for your question.

The Origins Platform Base is a solid top platform base that gives the mattress going on top of it a firmer feel. This is simply because a solid top base will firm up the spring tension. As standard the Origins Platform Base is paired with our Origins range of mattresses. They can however, be used with other mattresses.

The Contemporary Platform Divan Base is again a solid top platform base giving exactly the same firmer feel to the mattress. The main difference is the sturdiness; The Contemporary Platform Divan is constructed using Canadian Spruce, which is sturdier than the Origins Base

Please note that when we say here that the mattress is given a firmer feel it won’t make the mattress feel like a completely different model; It’s only slight and very subjective as one person’s firm is another person’s medium.

It may also be worth checking out our 2 remaining bases; The Artisan Base and our Ottoman Base.

The Artisan Base allows you to choose either a Pocket Sprung Unit or a Bonnel Coil unit. Both effectively do the same thing by adding extra support to the mattress but also softening down the feel of the mattress slightly. This does the opposite to the Origins and Contemporary Platform Divan but is always worth checking it out.

Our Ottoman Base is powered by 800 newton gas struts opening from the bottom upwards and providing ample storage inside the base itself negating the need for drawers. This would again give the mattress a firmer feel being a solid top platform.

I hope this has answered your questions fully but if you do have any further queries please don’t hesitate to contact us on 0161 437 4419.

Kind Regards, Lee.
