Hi I am looking to replace our mattress and i am intrigued by your products. I have a couple of questions. The first is you strongly advise trying a bed before buying – i assume that as John Ryan do not have retail partners this is not possible? Our present bed is a super king Kingkoil, a sprung divan base and pocket and foam mattress. I am 5’10” and 17 stone and have sleep apnoea, my wife is around 14 stone and 5’6″. She likes a firmer bed and i like medium to soft. Looking to spend around £1,500 and was hoping you could make a recommendation. I am open to pocket or latex?

Hi there,

Many thanks for your enquiry.

The reference to trying before you buy relates to other manufacturers products, where this is available in store and as you say, as we are internet based only it is not possible to try ours. Having said that, some of our Artisan models are similar in feel only to some Vi-Spring models, the details of which are here. If your current base is in good order, there is no need to replace that at the same time as your mattress. Bases in general, tend to last longer than mattresses.

Artisan Naturals

Given your budget, we would suggest that you look at the Artisan 1500, Artisan Tailored Pocket 2000 and the Artisan Naturals, the latter of which is the best seller in the Artisan range as detailed at the foot of this response. All these mattresses have a level of natural upholstery supported by a pocket spring unit, the tension of which can be selected to suit the body weights of the individuals using the mattress.

In your particular case, we would suggest a split spring tension, firm for you and medium for your wife. Such split tension products are available in a one piece or zip and link set in super king size, although the Artisan Naturals is slightly over budget if zip and link is selected.

We trust that the above is of help to you, but if you require any further advice or guidance, please call our office on 0161 437 4419.

Kind Regards.
