TAKE OUR MATTRESS QUIZ

What bed/mattress should I go for?

Hi,
Following up to previous advice I’ve initially been given by yourselves, I would like further recommendation please to help facilitate and clarify few things before making a purchase.
I’m in the market for a King size bed/divan and my budget is £1200. I’m a traditional side sleeper, sleeping on my left side/slightly to the front and generally do not move from that position. I am upgrading from a single slatted wooden bed on a very old mattress which I believe is open coil, where I can feel all the lumps and bumps!! I weigh around 62kg and I’m 6ft. I have tried many beds and extensively research around your website. I have now narrowed it down to three or four beds but still cannot make an informed decision about what would be best.
Currently these are between Origins Comfort 1000/1500 you offer and the bespoke grandeur and splendour divan bed sets from bensons. I did like the feel of both the bespoke bed sets and it was suggested by bensons having used their comfort station that medium firm would best support me. As these have an option with a sprung base, What can you tell me about sprung bases? Would I be looking for firmer or softer base and what difference would this make to me? I am tempted to buy and try out the comfort 1000/1500 but given my budget I could probably get more than standard polyester upholstery layers? I did ask Bensons how much weight of the Wool, Silk and Cashmere were in the aforementioned sets but they were unable to provide me that. Given my weight and sleeping position would this be deemed to make enough of a significant impact in feel and comfort?
It was also suggested to me to go for the standard divan base augmenting the comfort 1000 with your Laygel 7.5 cm topper to provide the best overall feel for me. However I see you sell this at a quite steep price. Could you recommend any alternative toppers I could try with that Mattress or could I go without? If I did choose to go with all three of your products and I’d didn’t get on with it, would you refund the price of the topper included?
I am tempted to buy comfort 1000 or 1500, but I am getting confused as to what the best bed/matress for my budget?

Hello again Rob,

Thank you for your further enquiry. It does seem that you are struggling to make a final decision upon which mattress to go for.

As you have indicated, the sales assistant in Benson’s was unable to confirm the GSM in the products they were selling, which is fundamental to you being able to make an informed decision. As you will be aware, the full GSM of the upholstery in the Origins Comfort 1000 is detailed within the description of that product on our site. We are unable to provide an opinion as to construction and performance of the Benson’s products because of the lack of detailed information available.

We note that you refer to the Origins Comfort 1000 or 1500, this product only comes with the 1000 spring option in the king size.  Due to your slight body weight in comparison to your height, the Origins Pocket 1500 is likely to provide you with too firm a feel as you fall within the soft spring tension/feel bracket.  We would certainly never put someone of your body weight on a medium firm mattress, as advised by Benson’s. You do not have enough body weight to make an impact on a medium spring/feel mattress and therefore anything firmer than soft is likely to result in uncomfortable sleep.

BodyweightSpring tension
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kgMedium (1.4mm)
16 Stone / 101kg UpwardsFirm (1.6mm)
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call)Soft (1.2mm)

As far as the selection of base is concerned, a sprung base is likely to provide a softer, more forgiving feel, although the Origins Comfort 1000 is usually paired with a platform topped base. The option of a sprung base in our range comes with two spring systems, Bonnel Coil and Pocket Sprung.  Either of these bases are suitable for the mattress and will give the mattress a more forgiving feel.

You could opt for not buying a topper at the same time as your mattress, as you may find one is not required and it could be an unnecessary expense.  We always recommend sleeping on the mattress for a few weeks in order to get to know what the top layers actually feel like.  You may find that the mattress is comfortable enough without using a topper.  We only make Laygel, Coolblue and Latex toppers and are unable to make a recommendation as to a natural fibre topper, although there are plenty of suppliers listed on the internet. As far as buying and trying is concerned, all our products (including those from the outlet) are covered by our 60 day “love it or return it” guarantee, which provides for a full refund or a one off exchange to an alternative product. This should not be viewed as a try and return process as we endeavour to match the customer to the product and in 96% of instances we get this spot on, which is why we are confident to offer this guarantee.

We trust that the above is of assistance in helping you make a final decision, but if you do require any further help, please call the office on 0161 437 4419.

Kind regards Julie
