Best bed for us on a slatted base

Lynda asked 31st July 2017

My husband is 5’8″ and 11 1/2 stone and I am 5’4″ and 12 1/2 stone. My husband is currently building a solid oak bed stead which will have a slatted base but having read your website I have told him that he will be best to put a sheet over the slats. Our current mattress was quite hard so we purchased a memory foam topper, however I am now feeling aches and pains in my back and really need to change to a more suitable mattress. I struggle with the heat at night and my husband does not like to be cold. We are looking to buy a King size mattress. Can you suggest the most suitable for us please.? Also how long does delivery take?

Hi Lynda,

Thank you for your question.

With the body weights provided you are both matched to a Medium spring tension

The spring tension is what gives you the level of support within the mattress itself.

As you have mentioned heat being an issue then I would recommend looking at our Artisan range.

This pocket sprung range is constructed from a differing percentage of natural fibres and materials. The higher the percentage the cooler the mattress feels.

A fantastic medium model here would be the Artisan Naturals mattress. This has 85% natural fibres and materials.

In regards to slats, this mattress is absolutely fine to go on a slatted base. Our advice would be to place sheets of MDF over the slats if the gaps are bigger than 3″.

Our advice would also be to test the mattress for between 4-6 weeks to get a true and accurate feel for the mattress before using a mattress topper; Simply use a mattress protector whilst you are in your 60 Day Love It or Return It guarantee period.

Our Artisan orders are sent to our factory on a Thursday and full delivery to yourself will be up to 4 weeks from the Thursday that it is placed.

I hope this has answered your question fully but if you do have any further questions then please don’t hesitate to contact us on 0161 945 3757.

Kind Regards, Lee.
