TAKE OUR MATTRESS QUIZ

Best mattress for different weights

Sarah asked

Hi, my husband is 20st and I am 9st. We currently have a king size tempur mattress which my husband hates as he wakes up with his back aching. I have disc issues in my back but the mattress doesnt bother me, apart from the heat. We want to move back to a sprung mattress with a pillow top – what would you recommend?.

Hi Sarah,

Thank you for your enquiry.

With a weight differential such as you have, we would recommend that you go for a split spring tension, firm for your husband and medium for you, although your are borderline soft. There is not a latex or foam mattress on the market that would suit you both in terms of support and feel. Tempur mattresses are predominantly made from memory foam, which is notorious for it’s heat retention/generation. We do not make nor recommend pillow top mattresses for the reasons detailed in this article.

Split spring tension mattresses are only available in our Artisan range and we would suggest looking at the Artisan Naturals, Artisan Bespoke 004 and the Artisan Bespoke all of which can have the spring tension selected to suit. If, however, you were to opt for a firm and soft, this would have to be in the form of a zip and link set, although if you go for firm and medium, this can be made in a one piece in king size and above. The Naturals and 004 both have an overall medium feel in the upholstery with the naturals having 85% natural upholstery and the 004 having 100%. The Artisan Bespoke on the other hand has the most upholstery in the range and will provide a slightly firmer feel than the other two, even if the spring tensions are selected as suggested.

We trust that the above is of help to you, but if you require any further advice or guidance, please call our office on 0161 437 4419 and speak with one of our advisors.

Kind regards.
