Can you tell me about gel toppers?

Thank you for your enquiry on our website. You’re in a tricky situation as the two toppers are very different.  A gel mattress topper like our Laygel topper is a gel-infused foam that moulds to the shape of your body.  Although these are not as heat retentive as memory foam and are more responsive they do not offer as cool a sleep surface as a natural fibre tufted topper.

The best option is always to purchase a new mattress and topper separately.  A pocket sprung unit with a memory/gel top (also known as a pillow top) are one-sided mattresses and as such you are unable to prolong the life of the mattress by using both sides.  Having them separate means both are fully turnable and you can even out the wear and tear.

At your body weight, we would pair you with the soft spring tension to give you the correct level of support and your husband would need a medium. All of our Artisan and Origins models are available in either a dual spring one piece mattress or a zip and link option in King Size and above.  We would need to know your preferences in comfort and fibres used in construction, synthetic or natural fibres in order to make a recommendation as to a suitable mattress.
