TAKE OUR MATTRESS QUIZ

Changing from Tempur to sprung mattress.

Deborah Ashcroft asked
3rd August 2017

We have had our Tempur mattress for over ten years and are thinking of having a change. Please could you give me some advice ?
We are both fairly light. I’m just under 9st and my husband weighs about 11.5 stone. I find that the memory foam mattress makes me too hot ( an age thing !) and I wake lots of times in the night. At present we have a lambs wool topper. My husband has been complaining of a sore back and we were wondering if now is the time to start looking for an alternative mattress. I’ve read some of the information on your web site, which I found useful. However I wouldn’t be confident to order until I feel I’ve a better understanding of the choices. Thank you.

Hi Deborah,

Thank you for your question.

We compare the Tempur mattresses to our own Hybrid range. This range is constructed from Hybrid Foam, so will give a similar sink in feel to memory foam but it is less heat retentive than memory foam.

The Hybrid 4 is the softer feeling of the 2 meaning that the Hybrid 5 is slightly firmer feeling.

If you were looking at changing to a Pocket Sprung mattress then we have 2 ranges available; Origins and Artisan.

Firstly, we need to match you to the correct spring tension. This what provides the level of support from within the mattress itself.

With the body weights provided you are both matched to a Medium spring. However, at just under 9 stone, you could also opt for a Soft spring if you prefer a softer overall feel.

As you have mentioned existing pains we would always recommend to avoid choosing a mattress that is too firm in it’s top upholstery layers as this will only make those pains worse.

As such, I would recommend our Origins Pocket 1500 or our Artisan Naturals mattress.

The Origins model is very medium feeling in it’s top layers; I.e, it is not too soft nor too firm.

The Artisan model is the true medium feeling of it’s range. However, as it is constructed from 85% natural fibres and materials, it does feel slightly softer than the Origins model, even though it is a medium feel. It is also a cooler mattress due to the natural fibres; Perfect for anyone who identifies as a ‘hot’ sleeper.

We would always advise to trial any of our mattresses for 4-6 weeks in order to get a true and accurate feel of the mattress before adding a topper.

I hope this helps,
