TAKE OUR MATTRESS QUIZ

Choice of mattress, tension etc

Brent Martin asked

I am looking to replace my now aging Tempur mattress. If was an older model with a soft top so I am used to softer feel. I am 6ft 3 and about 13. 5 stone. I find that firmer mattresses give me aches in my hip and shoulder as I am slim and tend to sleep on my side. I recently stayed at my mother’s house and she had bought a new mattress for the guest room which I initially thought was far too soft but actually after a few days was supremely comfortable for me and I woke without and aches! What can you suggest in terms of spring tension etc?

Hi Brent,

Thank you for your enquiry.

With your particular body weight, we would suggest that a medium spring tension/feel mattress would be most appropriate and as you say, firmer mattresses give you aches and pains. As a side sleeper, as well as support for your body weight from the spring unit, you will require softer upholstery layers.

BodyweightSpring tension
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kgMedium (1.4mm)
16 Stone / 101kg UpwardsFirm (1.6mm)
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call)Soft (1.2mm)

Please have a look at our Origins Comfort 1000, which has a standard medium tension spring unit together with soft man made upholstery layers, ideal for side sleepers.

Alternatively, if you prefer natural upholstery, please view the Artisan Luxury, which can have the spring tension selected to suit and has the softest natural upholstery layers. The Artisan Luxury is the softest mattress that we retail overall.

We trust that this helps, but if you require any further advice or guidance, please call our office on 0161 437 4419 and speak with one of our Advisor’s.

Kind Regards, Lee.
