TAKE OUR MATTRESS QUIZ

Choosing a mattress for two different bodyweights, one person being 20 stone

Sarah asked
13th September 2018

Hi please can you advise me on a mattress to buy please.
My partner is 19 stone and I’m 12stone. He over heats in bed too.
We are both side sleepers and I sleep on my back also.
I want something medium to firm for me but he probably needs more support for his weight.
I was looking at the latex, but not sure if it should be just a topper? The mattress is on a slated base.
I’m pretty desperate to get it sorted now as he’s off work with a bad back.

Hi Sarah,

Thanks for your question.

At your body weights you will need a split tension of Medium and Firm.

BodyweightSpring tension
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kgMedium (1.4mm)
16 Stone / 101kg UpwardsFirm (1.6mm)
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call)Soft (1.2mm)

Given that you disclose heat issues I would recommend you have a look at our Artisan range of mattresses. These are traditional pocket sprung mattresses constructed with natural fillings and those fillings give that cool sleep surface.

As side sleepers you need to avoid anything too firm in the top layers so as to avoid pressure point pains in places such as shoulders, hips and knees.

Have a look at our Artisan Naturals and Bespoke 004. Both have a medium top layer providing a slight sink but not too much.

They are both fine to go on to a slatted bed base as long as the gaps between them are no bigger than 3″. If they are then you will need to board it with MDF, plywood or pegboard.

I hope this has answered your questions fully but if you do have any further queries please don’t hesitate to contact our office on 0161 437 4419.

Kind Regards, Lee.
