TAKE OUR MATTRESS QUIZ

Cot and Baby Mattresses

Hi,
I am planning to purchase your Natural Cot Mattress and understand that microfibre cover provided is synthetic. Why would not you opt for some compromise with bamboo fibre which is natural and can be waterproof and breathable?
Another question is regarding mattress protector for my Artisan Naturals. Would you please advise which would be best for a warm sleeper. So far I am stuck with wooI filled, long staple cotton filled or simple bamboo protector.
Also some of the protectors only fit up to depth of – 26cm, I’ve just measure my Naturals and it is about 25cm – 26cm. Will those protectors fit onto the mattress?
Thank you

Hi Vkharch,

Thanks for your interesting question.

The reason we have chosen a microfibre cover is to ensure that it can resist accidents or spills from little sleepers better than a natural fibre. A bamboo or 100% natural cover would be permeable and therefore any ‘accidents’ would seep through and could irreparably damage the cot mattress.

We went for a water resistant cover that is still breathable. A fully waterproof cover would either be a plastic or rubber and therefore would lose it’s breathability which is why we didn’t choose waterproof. The cover is synthetic but water resistant allowing you to change your covers without the liquid passing through and damaging the mattress. So really we found it’s the best compromise for a parent.

We also provide two covers meaning there is no mad dash to get it washed and dried before your child’s next nap time. Sometimes we find practicality wins vs the ideal amount of natural fibres which I’m sure you can understand. We have written a detailed article on it here and why we always stress caution with 100% natural covers. Mainly that if accidents are not caught straight away you risk having a ruined cot mattress!

As for the Artisan Natural protector, we always advise an extra deep protector or sheet. We would advise to go for one that is slightly larger than the mattress to ensure it stays put during the night.

We hope that helps but if you have any other questions please get back in touch with a member of our team on 0161 437 4419.

Kind Regards, Lee.
