Custom size mattress?

Andy asked
5th June 2014

I’ve got a non-standard bed frame 6 foot 9.5 inches by 5 foot 2.5 inches internal measurements. I think it was once a four-poster. I’ve fitted plywood slats. How much would a Fusion 2 latex 80/20 firm mattress cost to fit this frame?
Would firm feel very firm on the slats?
I’m wondering if it might be best to go for an 6’6” mattress by 5’2” which will fit standard sheets, with a 3.5in slab of foam with same cover material as the mattress at the head end?
Would that be possible/sensible??

Hi Andy,

Thanks for getting in touch.

It sounds like an interesting base! What I would suggest first and foremost after fitting the slats that you board them with MDF or plywood as the latex model you’re looking at is only recommended for flat consistent surfaces. If you put it directly on slats you may find the latex conforms not only to your body as you sleep but the slats its placed on. You can end up with slight undulations if not careful you see.

I would need to know your weight and height to advise on the correct tension for your mattress. As of the 3.5 inches difference, my advice would be not to try and fill it with foam.

BodyweightSpring tension
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kgMedium (1.4mm)
16 Stone / 101kg UpwardsFirm (1.6mm)
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call)Soft (1.2mm)

I would advise that by the timesheets and a duvet are neatly tucked under the end of the bed the gap will be negligible. I think the foam block would just get in your way and make changing the bedding somewhat frustrating!! You could order a bespoke size mattress to fit this size, being aware that mattresses/furniture come with a +/-2cm tolerance for sizing anyway.

This could be done for you but I’d need to price it accordingly. The option is, however, yours to choose.
