Do your mattresses perform differently on a solid slat base
We currently have a double sized sleigh bed frame with a pocket sprung mattress and a separate 3″ memory foam topper. The bed frame has a solid slat base, which I understand from your advice should not need an mdf bridging layer.
We are considering a replacement mattress and wondered which mattress would you recommend between the Artisan Naturals and the Origins Pocket 1500? Would there be any noticeable difference between these two mattresses on a solid slat base?
Would there be any benefit in utilising the memory foam topper by placing this on top of the slats and placing the mattress on top?

All our traditional pocket sprung mattresses can go onto a slatted base. All we ask is that you check the gap between the slats and if they are more than 3 inches apart, that you put down some MDF or Hardboard to cover the slats. This does not need to be very thick, anything between 3mm and 5mm thick.
The Origins Pocket 1500 has man made fillings and has a medium feel in the upholstery layers or comfort layers which are on top of the springs, making the mattress neither too soft nor too firm. These mattresses come with a medium spring tension which is correct for your body weights and will give you the support that you need.

The Artisan Naturals also has a medium feel in the upholstery layers but it has 85% natural fillings and has hand formed pocket springs in calico pockets which makes the mattress more breathable. It is also hand side stitched and comes with a ten year guarantee. We can tweak the spring tension in these mattresses to suit your body weights but as above, a medium spring is what is required to give you the correct support. However, If this mattress goes onto a slatted base, it will firm the mattress tension up again.

Your memory foam topper would be fine to use on the Origins Pocket 1500 but would not recommend using this on a mattress that has natural fillings as memory foam is manufactured foam.
