TAKE OUR MATTRESS QUIZ

Don't know where to begin!

Hi Guys!
Really desperate for some guidance and was wondering whether you could assist me. It has become obvious that I need to replace my 20+ year mattress (embarrassing, I know!) but I don’t know where to begin. The current mattress is spring orthopedic mattress which is not comfortable at all.
I have never purchased one before and to tell you a bit more about myself is that I am male, 80+kg and 5 ft 11 in. I was looking at the Sealy Geltex Avola as I wanted something that is supportive yet still soft that doesn’t give me a sinking feeling. I want more info on whether I need pocket springs with the geltex cover. I do suffer from lower back pain/soreness most mornings so have been instructed by my osteopath to sleep on my side to alleviate morning stiffness and disorientation, which has been helping greatly.
I was wondering if you could help me make a decision as from reading some advise pages on your site I can see you are incredibly helpful in supporting customers making the right decision. I have never slept on memory foam much however can tell you it does make me hotter than i would like to be, so latex as it states is a lot cooler may be in of interest, but I look forward to your response.
Thank you!

Hi Meehir,

I am astounded that you have managed to get as long out of your current mattress as you have, clearly, you are very patient. As far as recommending a suitable mattress for you is concerned, I need to refer to your body weight, which dictates a medium spring tension and orthopaedic usually describes a firm feel mattress, so in my opinion, not suitable for you. Having said that you have managed for 20+ years.

I am not certain why you want to specifically go for a gel or foam mattress as opposed to a pocket sprung product with upholstery, but assume you have some experience with regard to the feel of such. The Sealy Geltex Avola is described as a pocket sprung mattress with an attached box top gel layer. I would never recommend any product with a box top or pillow top construction as the inherent flaw is that when the top eventually fails, which it will do over time, the whole mattress needs replacing. With a separate topper, you need only replace that and retain your mattress, making more economic sense.

If you are insistent on opting for a Latex product, I would suggest that you view the details of our Fusion 3, which has an 18cm Latex core and a separate 5cm latex topper. Alternatively, if you would consider a pocket sprung product, you could always view the Origins Pocket 1500, which will provide an overall medium feel. If your budget permits, you could also look at the Artisan Naturals or Artisan Bespoke 004, which can be selected with a medium spring tension.

I trust that this is of help to you, but if you require any further guidance, please call our office. Kind regard.
