Double layer spring unit

There are two main types of pocket springs;

1.Synthetic spun bond springs – the entry-level spring unit. Glued together with a polyester style material. The least breathable and responsive.

2.Calico encased pocket springs – Encased in a breathable natural calico cover which are then stitched together. Highly responsive and much more breathable.

Calico pocket springs are quite simply the highest quality spring you can get in a mattress. All the high-end manufacturers, such as Savoir beds, Vi-spring will use calico pocket springs in their top end ranges. Each spring is housed in a calico cover, this provides more flexibility than the synthetic spun bond counterparts meaning the springs can flex easily and breath more than cheaper pocket sprung units.

The Artisan Tailored Pocket 2000 is based on our Artisan Naturals. In order to keep the majority of natural fillings, we could only compromise on the spring unit. In this case, we use an above average spunbond encased premium pocket spring unit over two tiers, coupled with the benefit of having a choice of three spring tensions to suit of Soft, Medium or Firm. Even though The Artisan Naturals is superbly priced (and of course unbeatable for quality and price ) it did fall outside many peoples budget. This Tailored Pocket model becomes the next best option. The dual spring unit within this mattress creates a firmer support overall which is why the Tailored Pocket is usually described as feeling slightly firmer overall than the Naturals.

The Artisan Sublime, Artisan Bespoke 002 and the Artisan Bespoke 003 all contain a Calico encased pocket sprung double tier spring unit. The Dual layer springs within these three models creates a softer support overall, some individuals also describe the dual spring layer creating more movement or ‘bounce’ to the mattress.
