Dubious of wool filling and heat retention?

After needing to get rid of a memory foam mattress due to being too hot, im dubious about a spring mattress that contains wool and/or hempure over cotton/polyester as i feel wool/hempure maybe hotter than cotten/polester when sleeping. They say that wool draws moisture from you when sweating whilst sleeping to keep you cool (but isnt that why we sweat to cool our bodys down in the first instance?) but i wont be indirect contact with the mattress anyway as i use a mattress protector. can you confirm if a wool/hempure bed or one with cotton/polyester is cooler to sleep on please?

Hi Marc,

Memory foam is renowned for heat retention and this is the main reason people who buy them tend to want to change after a short period of use. Natural upholstery fibres are cooler than memory foam and tend not to generate or reflect heat back towards the body when being slept on. Wool and cotton will not produce the same overheating that is common with memory foam, making them ideal materials to use in mattress upholstery. I understand that hempure is material exclusive to Harrison Spinks and whilst I am aware it is natural, I am unaware of its performance in terms of heat retention etc. Polyester and cotton blends are common in many mattresses and whilst the polyester is a synthetic material, the inclusion of the cotton in the blend tends to reduce the possibility of overheating.

If you are interested in a natural fibre mattress you would need to take a look at our Artisan Range. Below you can see the upholstery layers of our Artisan Bespoke 004

I would suggest that a mattress containing wool and hempure is more likely to keep you cool, particularly as you will be using a mattress protector, which should also help to shield any form of heat radiation from a mattress.  I trust that this is of assistance.
