Finding a mattress that doesn't mound in the middle

Kerry asked
14th September 2015

Hi, we are looking to buy a new mattress for our superking bed. We have had two in the last 6 years and each one has created a hollow where each of us lie with a “mound” in the middle. The first one was a memory foam from an expensive retailer and the second was a miracoil with a memory foam topper. We simply did not have any knowledge 6 years ago and although the expensive one had a 10 year guarantee,it was so much hassle and expense to return it,we bought another…so what do we buy?
He is 15 stone..I am 14 stone…we both really really love the “premier in” bed if that helps. I have a bad back at the bottom but apart from that we are both fit and well. Any advise would be greatly appreciated
Thanks

Hi Kerry,

Thanks for your question.

At your body weights you would both be matched with a medium spring tension with ourselves to get the right level of support;

BodyweightSpring tension
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kgMedium (1.4mm)
16 Stone / 101kg UpwardsFirm (1.6mm)
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call)Soft (1.2mm)

The Premier Inn Hypnos mattress is one that we compare with our own Origins Pocket 1500. This is a true medium feeling model in the top layers providing that slight sink but not too much.

The main difference here is that the Origins Pocket 1500 doesn’t have the in-built pillow top layer. We would always advise to steer clear of pillowtop mattresses as once the fabric compresses there is nothing you can do to salvage the mattress.

We would therefore always recommend a completely separate detachable mattress topper in order to increase the lifespan of the bed as you can flip and rotate this.

I hope this has answered your questions fully but if you do have any further queries please don’t hesitate to contact our office on 0161 437 4419.

Kind Regards, Lee.
