Fusion 4 vs pocket sprung and latex topped mattress

Tim Hills asked
4th May 2016

Hi there,
I am very keen on getting a full latex mattress as my current mattress dipping after only a couple years. The best matress I’ve ever had was one with a couple inch latex top and pocket springs underneath, I am considering going all in on latex but I don’t fully understand how it is going to feel. I weigh 14.5 stones so I like the idea of the firm to medium feeling but I suppose I just wonder how it will feel in comparison to a pocket sprung, I know this is a really difficult question but I suppose ultimately I am keen to just get more information before I make the plunge. I’ve never brought a mattress before trying it so I am fairly new to this but it sounds like a good plan because you do a 30 day return period.
When it comes to sagging mattresses, how does latex fair? Also, what does 80kg latex vs 70kg latex actually mean.
Sorry for all the questions, hopefully it at least makes a little sense 🙂
Cheers
Tim

Hi Tim,

Thank you for your question.   Unfortunately for the time being, we are not able to construct the solid Latex mattresses due to an issue with the quality of the Latex but we are hoping to re-list these mattresses in about 16 weeks times.

The main difference between the solid core latex mattress range and a pocket sprung and latex topped mattress is the overall feel of the mattress. In a solid core latex mattress, it is far more forgiving and progressive in its sink. In a pocket sprung and latex mattress like our Origins Latex model, it is more robust and firmer overall. When laying latex on pocket springs in this fashion it gives a firmer feel to the latex.

As for the densities, 70kg relates to a medium feel latex and 80kg relate to a firmer feel latex. However, a solid core latex mattress will be much more forgiving so the construction method will also affect the over all feel.

If you have never had a solid core Natural Latex mattress before I’d suggest you try one out. We list some Dunlopillo models as our comparators. The Dunlopillo Celeste is a close comparator in feel, not in the same exact latex blend as we only use 100% natural latex, if you want to do some more investigating! Maybe find one in a showroom and give it a try to see if the sensation is to your liking. This helps either confirm or reject your current thoughts on solid core vs latex and pocket sprung.

However, if you’re wanting something similar to your previous mattress our Origins Latex will give you a firmer feel for your weight and contains 6cm of Talalay latex in the top layer on 1500 pocket springs.
