TAKE OUR MATTRESS QUIZ

Harrisons mattress versus Artisan Naturals mattress

Janet asked
23rd August 2012

Hi Ryan You replied to an email of mine on 10 August. I did respond on the same day but haven’t had a reply so am posting it here where hopefully it will be seen!

I rang Harrison direct for the content of their Appleton and Cawthorne mattresses as suggested.. As with other customers, they were unwilling to tell me the weights used in their mattress fillings. I was told the Appleton (£699) has a layer of wool then cotton/hemp, then posturefil springs (1000 per layer), the other side does not have the wool (summer side). The Cawthorne £799) has wool then wool/cotton/mohair then hemp then HD springs (2000 per layer x 2), again the other side does not have the wool layer on top. The Cawthorne seems to be better value for money but do you know anything about the HD spring system?

Also, how does this compare with your Artisan Naturals hand pocketed springs for support/longevity etc. Once I know about this, I can compare the two mattresses better for my husband who is a little wary of not being able to try out your mattresses. Do you take our old mattress away or do you know of anyone who will?

We live in the Altrincham area. What is your current lead time on the Artisan Naturals and will it be ok on our divan base which is not sprung?

Hi Janet.

Thank you for your enquiry,  I’m not really surprised that Harrisons won’t tell you what’s inside their mattress. Equally, I’m sure they would have been better placed to explain to you What, How and Why about their HD springs – which in the absence of their reply are essentially blankets of mini springs laid over their main Revolution spring system.

Unless you actually know what your money is getting you, it is quite impossible to make an informed comparison – and that is between models from the same manufacturer, never mind comparisons from different manufacturers. This lack of essential detail is leading you to question us about the build structure and longevity of someone else’s offerings. Without actually knowing what’s inside – it really does become an impossible question to answer.  Of course, this lack of transparency (from nearly all manufacturers – not just Harrisons) is at the crux of your (and everyone else’s) frustration.  If you have access to this detail, and knowing exactly where and on what your money was going, you would be so better placed to make an informed and educated purchase.

Artisan Naturals mattress

Our mattresses in the Artisan range are of a similar ilk to Vi-Spring, certainly not Harrisons.  Therefore, it becomes practically impossible to offer any legitimate comparison between the Artisan Naturals and any Harrisons mattress.  The current lead time for the Artisan range is four to five weeks

John Ryan by Design does not remove old mattresses, but having said that, the courier company that deliver our mattresses do offer this service.  You would need to contact them directly once they have sent you a delivery date.

Hope this helps and if you would like any further information or discuss the suitability of any of our mattresses please do not hesitate to contact the office on 0161 437 4419.  Our office hours are 8 am – 8 pm Monday to Friday and 10 am – 4 pm Saturday and Sunday.

Kind Regards

Michaela
