How to compare between Somnus and Vi Spring?

Fev asked

I need your help & advice i’ve been looking for the perfect single bed & mattress. Well I’ve found the single bed it’s by **** French Style Flower Cane Bed (White Painted) £499 in *** I need a really good mattress I tested vi-spring was really good but I also tried savoir No3 which I really loved but check the price below & that was me begging them to a discount. I want that luxury hotel bed feel but without breaking my bank balance. My friend told me they got a somnus & it’s like vi-spring. Help, do you know if they do clearance sale or display sales?

Savoir mattress £3,600 they said they’ll fix a box spring to my choice of bed plus include pillows & duvet set Vi-Spring tavistock mattress around £700 Somnus Superior mattress (Pocket count 5500 is that right) £1139.00 Is there anything out there like savoir but minus the price tag?

Hi Fevv

Thanks for your question.

Buying a mattress by brand name is not the way you should be tackling your dilemma.

First of all you are comparing your friends Somnus to an [expected] equivalent Vi-Spring.

Without having the GSM (Grams per square metre) of the mattress you want – In your case the Vi-Spring mattress you liked – you will never be able to find an equivalent or hopefully, even better mattress for the money you want to spend.

In the case of The Savoir at £3600 you will be getting a truly bespoke mattress and in my opinion one that would be amongst the best you can get from all manufacturers.

Would you be able to get similar for a lesser price?

Of course you could, but where?

What exactly would be the combination of fillings in the Savoir mattress?

Wool, Cotton, Cashmere, Horse Hair?

Most probably – but in what weights to enable you to do the most basic of comparison?

The covering (ticking) will be easy to compare because you can see it.

In this case it may well be a premium Egyptian Cotton as a subtle visual nod to the perception of premium quality to the mattress as a whole.

It’s worth reiterating here that the quality and finish of many branded mass produced mattresses will often be greater than the fillings contained – Do not buy on looks alone.

Once you know what components have been used and at what levels, you should be able to find the mattress you want at the price you want to pay.

If there is no way that your budget can stretch to the mattress you want you will then be able to make informed compromises by reducing your your spec component by component.

Our Artisan range has a similar feel to some of the Vi-Spring mattresses they are calico springs/”>pocket sprung mattresses with natural fibres and some are softer or firmer than other and we can accommodate different spring tensions for different body weights

many thanks.
