Hypnos Evesham hotel rest mattress

Mrs Clarke asked
2nd August 2013

Hi I have recently purchased a Hypnos Evesham/Hotel Rest Deluxe Mattress which is described as firm. I purchased this after staying in a hotel and really liking the mattress we slept on so I enquired which make and model it was and I was informed it was this Hypnos. My partner and I were wanting a firm mattress due to our old one being too soft and we both had back pain. Furthermore, even the slightest movement could be felt by the other person. This mattress has 1024 pocket springs and is very well made. I am just finding it too firm though (we have it on wooden slats rather than a sprung base which may be the reason that it is not as comfy as it was in the hotel). I am 5ft 2 and weigh 9 stone and my partner weighs 12.5 stone. He is not struggling as I am with it. I feel that we may have made a mistake with this mattress. Would you recommend a mattress topper (if so can you recommend any) or do I need to re-think the entire mattress all over again?

Many thanks n

Hi Mrs Clarke,

Thanks for your question.

Any mattress bought from any retailer will soften over time. A brand new mattress that hasn’t been slept on, where both the fillings and the springs haven’t been compressed will always feel firmer to begin with until it is regularly being used.

A mattress topper will always soften down any mattress as it introduces an additional comfort layer. My advice here is that simply because your previous mattress softened down over time this doesn’t dictate that you need a firm mattress. As discussed all mattresses will soften down over time.

Given that you disclose the aches and pains I’d be more inclined to guide you to purchasing a topper rather than beginning again with a new mattress. My reasoning for this is that you will more than likely find yourself in the same position if you start over with the mattress.

As such have a look online at a company called Soak and Sleep. They retail a much wider range of mattress toppers than we do so will be better suited to find a product to meet your needs. With toppers, you generally follow the rule of pairing it with the same material in the mattress; I.e, A foam topper with a foam mattress, a latex topper with a latex mattress. Our toppers are only really suitable for foam or latex mattresses so this is the reason I wouldn’t really recommend a product of our own.
