TAKE OUR MATTRESS QUIZ

I sleep on my side, I have joint pain, especially in my shoulders

Hi.
I’ve been suffering from some joint pain, especially in the shoulders and elbows. Having spent some time traveling we’ve tended to sleep best on a deep, soft (or soft feeling at least) mattress, however finding a mattress like this seems to be quite tricky. I also find getting the right pillows a nightmare and this also causes some discomfort (having a different mattress to previously has also seemed to change my neck/head position on the pillow)
We recently (start of November) purchased a casper mattress, however I find this too firm and also a bit sweaty and so we’re going to return this. To elaborate, when lying on my side I find the pressure on my shoulder when trying to sleep is uncomfortable, I can get pins and needles/soreness when trying to sleep like this or wake up with this in the night.
I’m 6ft 2, 11 stone, and tend to sleep on my side (or less often on my back). We’ve a standard double bed.
So, would love to hear what you would recommend as the right mattress!
Thanks
Dan

Dear Dan,

From what you have said your current Casper mattress is too firm for you causing pressure pain in your shoulders. Memory foam utilises body heat in order to be able to mould to your body and it retains this heat making it very hot for some customers.

BodyweightSpring tension
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kgMedium (1.4mm)
16 Stone / 101kg UpwardsFirm (1.6mm)

At your body weight, we would pair you with a medium spring tension but we would need to know the bodyweight of your other half to determine if this would be correct also. As a side sleeper, we would not recommend anything too firm in the comfort layers as this can lead to pressure pains in the shoulders, hips and knees.

Artisan Luxury mattress

As your comfort preference is soft I would recommend you look at either the Origins Comfort 1000 which has the softest upholstery layers in the Origins range and has a medium spring tension as standard or if your budget can stretch to it, the Artisan Luxury.  This 100% natural fibre mattress is the softest upholstery and can have the spring tension selected to suit. Please be aware that if you require a split tension mattress (one side medium and one side soft or firm depending on your partner’s body weight) these are only available in our Artisan range in King Size and above.

I hope this was helpful and if you would like any further information or would like to discuss the suitability of any of our mattresses please do not hesitate to contact the office on 0161 437 4419.

Kind Regards
Michaela
