TAKE OUR MATTRESS QUIZ

” Independent Coil System” & ” Innergy alternating coil design “

Hi J asked
19th July 2018

Hi there, I’m weighing up what type of Spring system I should buy. I see on your site that you recommend Pocket Springs. Are products with “Independent Coil System” & ” Innergy alternating coil design ” any good or are they just Continuous Coil systems?
Cheers. Jesse.

Hi Jesse,

Thanks for your question.

Calico Encased Pocket Springs are what we describe as the high end of pocket springs. These are individually encased allowing breathability and much more movement. A pocket sprung mattress has 2 elements to it; You have the spring inside where the tension is determined by body weight alone and then you have the fillings sitting atop those springs acting as the comfort layers.

From what I can see with the Independent Coil System and Innergy they market it as being able to eliminate motion transfer in the mattress as the spring constructions are different.

I can’t really comment on this as we construct nothing like this but if you have a concern over motion transfer it might be worth considering a Zip and Link mattress. This gives you 2 independent mattresses that can zip together and as they are 2 separate mattresses you can’t transfer movement between the springs. Motion transfer does depend on the individual as some people are a lot more sensitive to it than others.

We, ourselves, don’t construct any continuous coil system mattresses but we do have our Origins and Artisan ranges. The Origins range has more manufactured pocket springs and synthetic fillings whereas the Artisan range includes Calico Encased Pocket Springs and natural fillings. The natural fillings are what provide a cool sleep surface; Ideal for anyone who identifies as a hot sleeper.
