It’s a minefield buying a new mattress, I need help to choose
I wonder please if you could advise whether it is ok to place a coil mattress on top of a pocket sprung (sprung edged) divan base with draws (std. double size). The base is 16yrs old.
Hi Muriel,
Thank you for your enquiry. Pocket sprung bases are suitable for most mattresses, with the exception of foam based mattresses as they require a uniform surface such as a platform divan. A pocket sprung base will soften the overall feel of your mattress. The age of your base shouldn’t be a hindrance to a new mattress, if there is nothing wrong with your base then there is no need to replace it at the same time as your mattress.
Bodyweight | Spring tension |
---|---|
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kg | Medium (1.4mm) |
16 Stone / 101kg Upwards | Firm (1.6mm) |
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call) | Soft (1.2mm) |
When looking to replace your mattress you should first consider your body weight. This will determine the right spring tension to give you the correct level of support. The next this to consider is your comfort preferences and sleeping habits. We wouldn’t recommend anything too firm in the upholstery layers for side sleepers as this can cause pressure pain in the shoulders hips and knees. The next thing you should consider is your budget.
I hope this was helpful and if you would like any further information or would like to discuss the suitability of any of our mattresses please do not hesitate to contact the office on 0161 437 4419.
Kind Regards
Michaela
