John Lewis Comparison

Alex asked

Hi,
We’ve been looking at the John Lewis Natural collection and quite like their ‘Silk’ model, but my BS detector is going off at ever increasing spring numbers, TV marketing names for springs like “HD” and “4K” (why, just why) and what seems like an attempt to add every different natural filling into the upholstery. Your no BS approach is ticking the right boxes but I’m struggling to find an equivalent John Lewis / show room bed to try as a proxy.
Having read your other answers I understand you can’t make a direct comparison to the natural collection as they don’t publish a detailed breakdown. However, your suggestion to try the Vispring mattresses as a direct comparison is proving a bit difficult as the current models at John Lewis don’t appear to exist in your comparison chart. Any chance you could update it, or just provide the closest equivalent Vispring mattresses at John Lewis to your top of the range model (which I think is the Bespoke 002).
Also, any chance you can comment on the Natural Collection “flip with the season’s” claim, where the upholstery layers are different on each side, one side favourable for winter and the other summer. Do you think there’s any merit in this?
Thanks,
Alex

Hi Alex,

The John Lewis Natural Collection mattresses are made for them by Harrisons, who are a reputable mattress manufacturer in the UK, but who don’t provide construction and upholstery details in respect of any of their products. In addition, the Vi-Spring models displayed in John Lewis are sometimes made specifically for that retailer to sell and do not appear elsewhere in the marketplace. They do occasionally stock some of the more well-known models, but not all. Furniture Village and some House of Fraser stores may have a wider selection, which may include the ones in our comparison. You may also have noted that Vi-Spring has also now stopped providing a full breakdown of the upholstery layers in their mattress descriptions.

As far as the Artisan Bespoke 002 being our top of the range is concerned, I would comment that it is our most expensive, but that does not mean it is suitable for everyone with that budget. Things such as body weight(s), and preferred feel are more important when deciding upon which model to opt for and without this information, it is impossible to make a specific recommendation in respect of our or anyone else’s products.

All our Artisan models are double sided and I think that the “turn with the seasons” is more to do with marketing than actual benefit, as a quality mattress should be able to provide the right degree of comfort whatever time of year it is. In addition, if you are only turning your mattress twice a year, you are likely to encounter over the settlement of the upholstery, meaning that the longevity is compromised.

I hope that the above is of some help to you, but if you require any further assistance, please call our office.

Kind regards,
