John Lewis Naturals Yorkshire wool 7000 comparison

Barbara asked
13th October 2013

Hi I’m looking for a new king size mattress to go on a slatted base. I am currently single and about 11 stone. I had pretty much decided on the John Lewis Naturals Yorkshire wool 7000 (£1400) which is about the top of my budget. However I’ve just come across your website and I’m really impressed by your obvious knowledge and honesty. I’m wondering how your Artisan natural compares to the various models in the John Lewis natural range. Unfortunately they don’t give gsm values. I’d be really grateful for your opinion. Also, from what I’ve read, I assume I would want a medium tension for my bodyweight?

Thanks for your help. Barbara >

Hi Barbara,

Thanks for your question.

As you have mentioned the John Lewis range do not have associated GSM attributed to their models and so a precise comparison cannot be made. We however, fully disclose the full breakdown of all our products, as below.

Our Artisan Naturals mattress is very much a true medium feeling model in the top layers providing a slight sink into that top layer but not too much. It has the benefit of having 85% natural fillings that will provide a cool sleep surface; Ideal for anyone who identifies as a hot sleeper.

At your body weight you are matched with a Medium spring tension to get the right level of support. The only thing that determines the spring tension is your body weight as this is what provides you with support;

BodyweightSpring tension
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kgMedium (1.4mm)
16 Stone / 101kg UpwardsFirm (1.6mm)
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call)Soft (1.2mm)

That mattress is fine to go on to a slatted bed base as long as the gaps between the slats are no bigger than 3″. If they are then all you would need to do is purchase some standard sheets of MDF, plywood or pegboard. This is due to the fact that the mattresses will attempt to settle in any gaps bigger than 3″ causing indentation and damage.

I hope this has answered your questions fully but if you do have any further queries please don’t hesitate to contact our office on 0161 437 4419. Our office is open Monday to Friday 8am to 8pm and Saturday and Sunday 10am to 4pm.
