Mattress recommendation for a side sleeping scoliosis sufferer

Angela asked

Hello, I am moving home and buying a new bed, but am unsure as to which mattress is best. I will be changing to a kingsize bed. I am 5’8 and 80kg. I have scoliosis. I sleep mostly on my side but sometimes on my back. As an adolescent/younger adult I had a lot of back pains, and found a firm mattress on a good divan base to be the best. Now I still find that bed comfortable when sleeping on my back, but am getting some upper back pain/shoulder pain when I sleep on my side. I don’t like the feeling of sinking in too far on a soft mattress, but also I wonder if a firm mattress is maybe putting too much pressure on my upper torso. Your expert advice is much appreciated!

Thanks for getting in touch.

Your sleeping habits/personal preference will then determine how you would like the mattress to feel in the comfort layers. This is where you will achieve the feel you are looking for (soft/medium/firm). Do you know if you have a preference for a soft, medium or firm?

If you do not, I would advise to go out and try the;

Vispring Devonshire – Soft in upper layers – Comparable with the Artisan Luxury

Vispring Regal Superb – True medium in upper layers – Comparable with Artisan Bespoke 004

Vispring Herald – Firm in the upper layers – Comparable with the Artisan Bespoke

This is then to be paired with the right spring tension based on your body weight and at 80KG you are a medium spring tension. This is so your body weight is correctly supported as it is subjective based on this.
I hope that helps and if you have any further questions please get back in touch on 0161 437 4419 or [email protected].
