Phil sutton asked

Looking for new bed base and matress. I am 18.5 stone. Wife is 12 stone. She prefers hard bed, I side sleep prefer a bit more give. I like to be cool when I sleep, she likes warm. I move a lot in the night due to neck, shoulder pain (old injuries). Would pocket with latex top be good? Wife also likes electric blanket sometimes. Thanks. Finally would you recommend king or superking. We currently have king with Sealy mattress.

Good Morning Phil,

Thank you for your questions.

With the body weights provided you will need a dual spring tension; one half will need to be Firm for yourself and the other half Medium for your wife.

The spring tension is what provides you with the correct level of support from within the mattress itself.

As you mention preferring to be cool when you sleep I would recommend our Artisan range. This range is constructed from a differing percentage of natural fibres and materials and as such come in feeling cooler to the touch. A dual spring tension can be constructed in this range in one overall mattress unit.

Once the spring tension is established the next thing to consider is how you prefer the mattress to feel in it’s top upholstery layers, also known as the comfort layers.

With you mentioning being a side sleeper and existing pains we would always advise not to opt for a mattress that is too firm in it’s comfort layers as this will only serve to make these pains worse. Archaic advice available online suggests that you need a firm mattress if you have existing pains but this just isn’t true anymore.

As such, I wouldn’t advise a latex top as this feels firmer than a standard comfort layer.

With that in mind there will need to be a level of compromise between you both in terms of the overall feel of the mattress.

I would recommend both the Artisan Naturals and the Artisan Bespoke 004 mattress.

Both of these mattresses are very medium feeling in their comfort layers; I.e, not too soft nor too firm. The Artisan Bespoke will simply come in feeling ever so slightly softer in it’s top layer.

In regards to the size of the mattress it really depends on both personal preference and your heights in order to establish which one is the correct size.

I hope this has answered your questions fully but if you do have any further queries then please don’t hesitate to contact us on 0161 437 4419.

Kind Regards, Lee.
