TAKE OUR MATTRESS QUIZ

Mattress and base recommendation

Hi I am currently trying to get grips with mattresses as I currently have an ortho pocket sprung mattress and suffer with back pain, I wake up every morning aching all over so feel I need to try a different mattress. I thought I needed a really firm mattress but having tried and nearly bought a Tempur ( could not justify nearly £2000 on a mattress) I am now thinking maybe firm is not so good as the Tempur seemed to do as it said and kept me aligned, although my fear was it would be too hot also. I tend to lie on side or front as does my husband, I like the idea of a mattress that you cannot feel the other one move or get out. Also the bed is a tension wood slatted one, would a divan be better? My weight is 11.5 stone and hubby 13.5. Price wise I would be looking at mid range.

Hi Michelle

Your Ortho pocket sprung mattress is much too firm for you both at your current body weights, also anyone who is a side sleeper needs a mattress that is a little more forgiving in the top upholstery layers

. If you liked the feel of the Tempur mattress but not the price tag, or the thought of overheating, then i would recommend that you take a look at the Hybrid range of mattresses on our website, these offer a very similar support feel to Tempur, but also have the heat dispersing gel within their mix to make them a cooler sleep environment.

The solid foam and latex mattresses do offer a very dead feeling, meaning the mattress only moves, where you lie, and doesn’t disturb the other sleeper.

We would recommend that you place thin 3-5mm hardboard or mdf over the slatted area of your base, as the solid foam and latex mattresses give their optimum feel, on a solid flat surface.

If you require any further assistance please call the office.

Kind Regards Gary
