Hi,My partner and I are looking to buy a new mattress but are unsure of what type would be best.Our combined weight is under 23st and we both suffer with back ache, I have scoliosis and my partner is a builder so suffers with every day back aches.We currently have a orthopaedic mattress but I don’t find it’s made my back ache any better and to be honest my partner complains more about his since we’ve had it.Any advice would be much appreciated.Thank you.

Hi There,

Thank you for your enquiry.

The main considerations when advising upon a new mattress are individual body weights, preferred feel, any medical issues and budget.

Whilst we appreciate that you have provided an overall body weight, this needs be to provided as individual weights in order for us to advise upon the right spring tension to provide the appropriate support.

The main cause of back aches and pains is incorrect spring tension. Most mattresses with the words orthopaedic or ortho in their title are on the firm side and even with your combined weights, we are sure that your current mattress is too firm.

Whilst there are no specific mattresses out there for scoliosis, you do need to ensure you get the right spring tension and we’d advise that you need at least a medium upholstery to create some sort of alignment of the spine.

Have a look at our Artisan Naturals, which has that true medium upholstery providing a slight sink but not too much.

Whilst you have provided your combined body weights we would need to know your individual weights in order to ensure that we match you with the correct spring tension;

BodyweightSpring tension
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kgMedium (1.4mm)
16 Stone / 101kg UpwardsFirm (1.6mm)
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call)Soft (1.2mm)

In order for us to advise on the most appropriate product for you, we would ask that you call our office on 0161 437 4419 and provide your individual body weights to one of our Advisor’s who will then make recommendations from our ranges.

I hope this helps.

Kind Regards, Lee.
