Mattress Depth – Origins Pocket Reflect 1000

Ruth asked
2nd August 2017

Hi There. I’m curious to know why the depth of the mattress is 30-33cm, unusually high compared to the often standard 24cm of many other brands? Would you say the standard 24cm mattresses are compromising on filling and that you just tend to use more – and for what reason? Would really like to know how and why it differs. Do John Ryan make mattresses that are less deep? I’m concerned about the combined height once it’s placed on a divan.

Hi Ruth,

Thank you for your question.

Our standard depths for our Origins and Artisan range are between 12 and 13 inches.

It is difficult for us to offer a full explanation of comparison brands to our Origins range as we simply don’t have the information disclosed to us of what goes into other brand mattresses.

One thing that is always worth noting with our Origins Pocket Reflex 1000 mattress is that it is a fully turnable mattress. As such you need to have the same quantity of fillings on either side of the mattress to get the same level of comfort.

Origins Reflex
1750gsm Very soft Polyester
2One inch reflex foam layer
3270gsm Polyester
4One inch reflex foam layer
51000 Spun Bond Pocket Springs

There are a lot of mattresses out there that are simply 1 sided mattresses meaning that they don’t have to provide the same quantity of fillings on either side.

This will always affect the depth of the mattress as it can then be smaller.

We are no higher in depth than any other quality brand mattress out there and you are correct in that depth is linked to overall quality of the mattress. The thinner the mattress then the less fillings there are inside it.

I hope this has answered your questions fully but if you do have any further queries then please don’t hesitate to contact us on 0161 437 4419.

Kind Regards,
Amy.
