Mattress for Ottoman

We are looking to get a new bed!
We would like an ottoman super king base and zip and link mattresses, although are not planning to ever split them.
My husband is 9 stone, side and back sleeps and gets sore knees and back. I am 11 stone and get a sore back and side or front sleep.
We sleep currently on a 1000 spring hyponos mattress with expensive John Lewis memory foam topper and find it comfy but hot.
Ins benson we liked the firm 4 mattresses with a pillow top, to give quite a firm actual mattress but then soft top. We like the ottoman bases with solid padded platforms and found the spring bases too springy. The Montreal of the international range was our favourite which has a double layer of 1400 springs. We like Premier Inn beds. We sit up in. Ed quite a lot too.
Can you recommend mattresses that could suit us and give a firm supportive base but still a soft cloud like top. From what I can read this would be better using a separate topper rather than built in pillow top?
We would look to spend £500-800 for the mattress and will look at the outlet options as money is tight and also consider credit card is our budget is too low.

The first thing to say is that we do not make any mattresses which are comparable to any products sold by Bensons. The products you refer to do not have published details of construction or upholstery in terms of GSM (grams per square metre), which make providing any form of comparison impossible. Similarly, it is not possible for us to compare firmness based upon the grading used by Bensons as this is exclusive to them and full explanations are not provided.
With your particular body weights, we would suggest that a medium spring tension/feel mattress is most appropriate.
The mattress which best meets your requirements is the Origins Comfort 1000.
Please also view the Origins Pocket 1500, which has a standard medium tension spring unit together with man made upholstery providing that overall medium feel.
This mattress can be paired with an ottoman base, and ours have a platform top. We do not make nor recommend mattresses with a pillow top for the reasons detailed in this article.
Although you are both suited to a medium spring tension, we note your requirement for a softer top layer, which could be provided by the application of a topper.
