TAKE OUR MATTRESS QUIZ

Mattress for a man who has a lower back condition and arthritis?

(Mr) Pelleren Hodges asked
26th January 2019

Hi,
I am 57 yrs, 183cm tall and weigh 84kg, my wife is 51yrs, 155cm and 72kg . We both sleep on our back and side.
I have a lower back condition a result of trauma caused during my years in the military, I also have arthritis which is aggravated by our current mattress. My wife also suffers but to a lesser degree.
Our priorities in mattress selection is purely that of comfort, to be able to have an undisturbed painfree nights sleep and awake with the flexibility with which we went to bed.
Of course cost is always a consideration and as such do not want to pay more than we have to to find a mattress that meets our needs.
Yours in desperation,

Hi Pelleren,

Thank you for your enquiry. The advice used to be for anyone with back problems you needed a firm mattress but that is no longer the case. What you need is the correct spring tension to give you the correct level of support, which for both you and your wife would be a medium spring tension.

Origins Pocket spring 1500 mattress

In our Origins range, I would recommend the Origins Pocket 1500 which has a medium spring tension as standard and has medium man-made comfort layers so it will not be too firm when sleeping on your side but not too soft when you sleep on your back.  In our Artisan range, I would recommend the Artisan Naturals which has a similar but slightly softer feel to the Origins Pocket 1500 but is constructed with 85% natural fibres and can have the spring tension to suit.

I hope this is helpful and if you would like any further information or would like to discuss the suitability of any of our mattresses please do not hesitate to contact the office on 0161 437 4419.

Kind Regards
Michaela
