New Mattress Advice and Recommendation Please

GILL asked
29th August 2018

Hi,
We stupidly bought a 3000 spring bed with a pillow topper 2 years ago, what a mistake that was, we have had to reverse it and place a topper on it in order to use it, we won’t make this mistake again!
People are raving about the new types of boxed mattresses, I am sure you’ll know the genre.
Are they suitable for my husband who weight is at 17st and me at 12st?
Thanks!

Hi Gill,

Thanks for your question.

We don’t retail any boxed mattresses so we aren’t in a position to offer advice on them. The main experience we have with them is when people have had them, don’t get on with them and come to us to discuss more traditional pocket sprung mattresses.

We would always advise against pillowtop mattresses as once the fabric compresses there is nothing you can do to salvage the mattress, as I’m sure you’ve already found. As such we would always recommend a fully turnable mattress with a completely separate mattress topper

We have 2 pocket sprung ranges ourselves; Our Origins and Artisan ranges. The main difference between them is that the Artisan range is constructed with natural fillings. Those natural fillings not only last longer but also provide a cool sleep surface; Ideal where there are heat issues during sleep.

At your body weights you would need a split tension mattress; One half would need to have a Firm spring for your husband and the other half a Medium spring for you.

BodyweightSpring tension
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kgMedium (1.4mm)
16 Stone / 101kg UpwardsFirm (1.6mm)
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call)Soft (1.2mm)

We would need to know your sleeping habits as well as preferred feel in the top layers to discuss suitable models with ourselves.

I hope this has answered your questions fully but if you do have any further queries please don’t hesitate to contact our office on 0161 437 4419.

Kind Regards, Lee.
