TAKE OUR MATTRESS QUIZ

New mattress please?

Hello there, we are wishing to replace our 9yr old Sealy Ortho Support mattress… We have done a little ‘bed hopping’ in the show room… Found one, two at a push- that we thought we suitable…1. Handmade Bed co Grandeur-really like this one!!!! 2. Sealy Geltex Adelaide thought was nice… Liked the idea of cooling Geltex as I tend to overheat in bed. Our credentials are.. Me 80kg…OH 85kg…we have a slatted (no sprung) bed base. I loved the Grandeur mattress it was of a Firmer tension, though tad concerned how I feel about tufted topper but we loved the firm ‘but soft’ feel. we kind of thought our current mattress was about a 4 firmness rating – based loosely on shops ‘guidelines’ ….. how wrong were we!! It’s more like a 2 in their world. Would very much appreciate it if you could recommend a mattress from one of your collectionss. Our budget is £1200. Thankyou in advance of your time and knowledge

Hi Jo,

Thank you for your question.

The major consideration when advising on the most appropriate mattress is body weights and in your articular case you fall in the middle of the medium range. I would certainly not recommend and othorpaedic (firm) or any other firm feel product. Both the products you are looking at are what is known as pillow top mattresses. We do not recommend this type of mattress because when the top flattens, you need to replace the whole mattress and this affects the longevity of the product. With a separate topper, you can always turn and rotate this to extend it’s life and when it does become too flat, you can replace the topper only, which will represent a more economic solution that the purchase of a pillow top mattress.

As far as comparisons are concerned, because the details of the upholstery provide are vague in the extreme, it is impossible to provide one. All our products have detailed information regarding the springs and the upholstery in terms of GSM (grams per square metre).

Take a look at our Artisan range which is predominantly Natural fibres. With you having problems with overheating, the natural fibres contained within these models will eliminate the problem as natural fibres do not retain heat in the same way that synthetics do.

If you are specifically looking at a latex or foam mattress, please view our Contemporary range and then call our office on 0161 437 4419 for more specific advice as to suitability.

Kind regards
