Opinion of Kayflex mattresses

Jen asked
12th August 2015

Hi there, I would like to know your opinion of ‘Kayflex’ mattresses in general.

I have just received one through an online retailer and I’m left feeling ripped off. It was the ‘Kayflex Pocket Plush 2000’ on sale at £179. The top feels soft, however I am concerned about the sides – no padding whatsoever and I can actually feel the individual springs. I contacted the retailer who told me that ‘2000’ was simply a name and did not refer to the number of springs and that the mattress probably only had 1000 pocket springs! I told him that I had been mislead as the mattress was NOT the same as the one in the picture and in addition, a ‘2000’ sticker had actually been stuck on top of the mattress label.

Customer services told me that Kayflex make all the labels and then stick on the stickers in the factory. Customer services also told me that if it was in fact a 2000 pocket mattress, i’d be looking to pay around £300 – but that was the original price before the sale! I smell a rat somewhere. Grrr.

Please send me your thoughts. Thank you in advance.
Jen

(ps -I asked for a refund but was then told that it would cost me £50! to collect by courier. I’m so disappointed.)

Hi Jen,

I am sorry to hear of your issues with the recently purchased mattress.

Unfortunately, the on-line description of the mattress you have is vague in the extreme with the only specific element being referred to as a 3cm pad of memory foam. The reference to 2000 in its name clearly does not relate to the number of pocket springs as a reference to the actual number is deliberately evaded in the description.

I would not recommend any mattress containing a layer of memory foam because of the heat retaining qualities of that particular product, and I certainly would not recommend the product you have purchased. The quality, in general, seems very inferior. Personally, I would opt for the refund and cut my losses.

If you are looking for a bargain online, these very rarely exist.

I appreciate that budget is a major consideration when making a purchase, however when it comes to a mattress, I would advise spending as much as you can afford and avoid bargain offers.

How much to spend on a double mattress? What can I expect for my money?
