Origins pocket latex questions

Chris asked

hi John / ryan, i have spent christmas and new year trying to pick a replacement mattress i have a kozeesleep pocket sprung with memory foam which is now 10 years old, its on a spring base. we have both spread some over the last few years and will be reducing again hopefully ha ha !!. i am 14 stone and my wife is about the same. Trawling through all the websites and going to shops is like going for a degree, the more you research the more confused you get. I have narrowed my search down to your site finally and am of the opinion that the Origins 1500 pocket sprung latex is a good choice, we like the memory foam but find we are to hot , will the latex really keep us cooler?

My wife is suffering with pain in one of her hips, and thinks a softer bed will be more appropriate, i get back pain and neck pain.and am happy with the meduim . We have been to Benson beds and we both liked the Brisbane latex bed at 1299 sale price, the site does not go into depth of layers which worries me its does state 2800 springs. 2 x 1400 How does your mattress compare?

i have also checked out ***, this doesn’t state if hand side stitched like yours and your has more latex,?

i have looked at the full Innergetic latex bed on the Innergetic website, would this be a good choice?

Finally i checked out Breasley Duo Comfort Pocket 1200 Mattress with 4cm of latex, but again not enough specifications. Can you let me know if the Origins 1500 is what you would recommend to us or have you different thoughts, please comment on the above. regards Chris .

Hi Chris.

Thank you for your enquiry on our website.  Quite simply and to reduce the chance of you having a seizure the Origins Pocket latex 1500 will be an ideal choice for you both.  I do not need to look at the models you mention to draw comparisons because you can do this quite easily yourself (and thus not just taking my word for it) by phoning the manufacturers of each product and asking them the most crucial question in this exercise – How deep is the latex layer and what type of Latex? Without even going to the sites you mention I know this intrinsic detail is not divulged.  As obviously the latex component is the most expensive part of the mattress, this is where you are spending your money.  2cm is pretty much worthless.  5cm is average and acceptable – we put 6cm in ours with a 2cm insulating layer of Reflex foam.

Type of latex is important as well.  Graphite latex (the grey stuff) is the cheapest of all latex products.  Graphite is added to give the Fire Retardency properties required by law in this country.  However, the graphite can be as much as 30% of the material (classed as a filler).  We use latex sourced from Latexco, where the FR treatment is applied by (Oeko-Tex certified) spray to the material, therefore, there is no filler. The other major latex company is Latex International – more of a US presence than in the UK but equally reputable.  Innergetic Latex is also sourced through Latexco (actual blend composites are kept a close secret) but equally a premium latex product.  Innergetic is used mainly by the Silentnight group (Silentnight / Rest Assured etc) but from what I have seen, the depth of latex is seldom disclosed and upon questioning is usually low – please make your own enquiries to the manufacturer to ascertain precise depths used. Incidentally, our Origins Pocket Latex is not HSS (Hand Side Stitched) but machine stitched.
