I thought I wanted a Pillowtop mattress but not sure now

Lynn Kenworthy asked

I am looking for a new king size mattress. There is so much choice I am quite confused but have settled on medium tension which suits both mine and my husband’s weight and I am searching for the best quality I can find for around £1000-£1200. I thought I wanted a ‘pillow top’ mattress because I thought it would feel more comfortable but I am not keen on latex. My husband gets hot in bed. Our current bed is too firm. I notice that your Artisan beds don’t have a pillow top but do they have different fillings on the top?

Hi Lynn,

Thank you for your enquiry. We do not recommend pillowtop mattresses mainly due to the fact that they are one-sided.  Once the ‘pillow top‘ fails it is impossible to gain the loft of the mattress.  You can not prolong the lifespan of these mattresses with the proper care and maintenance as you can with a two-sided mattress.  You can achieve the same feel with the use of an additional topper if you want to soften the feel of the mattress upholstery and this is easily replaced and the end of its lifespan instead of replacing your whole mattress.

Artisan Tailored Pocket sprung 2000 mattress

Our Artisan range are constructed with predominantly natural fibres, which offer the coolest sleep surface. Different combinations of these fibres (and springs) create a different ‘feel’ in each model.  When looking for a new mattress the upholstery should be determined by your comfort preferences, sleeping habits and budget.
