TAKE OUR MATTRESS QUIZ

Please help me find a soft feel mattress, I am very light…

I am 6 stones and 10 pounds in weight and 5 ft 1inch tall. I am mostly a side (though sometimes back) sleeper. I have a king size brass bed stead that I LOVE, with a sprung slatted base. (Very good quality and materials) I do understand that sprung slatted is not that great for a number of reasons, but a divan is not an option at the moment.Having bought an expensive mattress 3 years ago, (the Relyon memory impression 1400, a hybrid ) which I hate as it is far too hard, has a permanent dip in the middle, gives me back, neck and shoulder ache, and very little sleep, I am throwing in the towel, ditching it and wishing to find a replacement.I really want to avoid making another expensive mistake.I would like a natural (if possible) mattress, but I have become so exhausted and disheartened in my search, that I will consider anything that will feel right.Because of my sleight weight and proportions, I need it to be as soft a feel as possible. I would like to achieve a straight spine and to support my frame uniformly, during sleep . Whatever the construction, type or material of the mattress. I suffer from pressure points pain from most mattresses that I wish to finally avoid. I previously considered the vi-spring Devonshire soft gauge (and then saw your Artisan Luxury on line) but it still feels too firm in the showroom. I liked the spec of your artisan luxury, but do not wish to order it if the Devonshire v-spring, which is comparable, feels too firm.I then really liked the Flaxby natures finest 6500. It feels nice and soft but only has a one year guarantee and am not sure about buying through Dreams. It is a no turn mattress. I also can’t really try it for long enough in a showroom, to see if I will get pressure points pain from a nights sleep on it and there is no money back try it guarantee. I can’t afford another expensive mistake like last time.I had recently almost definitely settled for a Tempur Cloud 19, which felt very comfy in the John Lewis showroom and promised no pressure points and that weightless feeling, but I have chickened out having read lots of bad reviews about Tempur mattresses. (Heat retention, fumes, sagging, painful after a while, guarantees not being honoured etc)I have recently seen your latex model, and video to go with it, which looks really promising, but it says it has a medium feel. Would it feel softer that your artisan luxury? Would the slats be a problem?I like your transparency, openness and being informative. I like your ethos of not having sales, and your 60 night guarantee. Please could you tell me how long you have been trading for in you current capacity, as I have only recently come across you in my internet searches and bed retailers are all saying you are not known by them and why haven’t they heard of you if you are so good…? I disagree with them. What can you recommend overall, given my weight, my sprung slatted bedstead, my need for a soft feel and no pressure points pain and being a mostly side (sometimes back) sleeper. I will consider anything from any of your ranges that you feel will suit the most. (Or any one else’s too). Please help me if you can, as I am now desperate for consistent, good night sleeps! Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Hi Jamie,

Thank you for your enquiry. We are sorry to hear of the problems you have had in selecting a suitable mattress.

Firstly, the reason for your current mattress developing a dip in the middle is likely to be associated with your slatted base.

We always advocate placing some form of barrier, usually thin (3-5mm) MDF over slats to provide the mattress with a uniform surface upon which to sit.

This also eliminates the ridging or bulging in the centre caused by the central support bar in the base.

Whilst you may have tried the Devonshire in store and found it to feel too firm even with a soft spring tension.

You need to consider that the display model could have been there for some time with literally hundreds of people trying it and lying on it for around 10-15 minutes.

This will have softened the mattress even more, so it looks like nothing in our ranges would be soft enough for you, on it’s own. You may need to consider adding a soft mattress topper as well to get that really soft top layer, to create the level of softness you are trying to achieve.

We do compare our Artisan Luxury to the Devonshire in terms of feel only, but are unable to advise of any other products which may be suitable because the published details of construction and upholstery in terms of GSM (grams per square metre) are limited.

Memory foam (Tempur) is not recommended by us because of the heat retention and the speed at which it returns to shape (slow). With your particular light body weight we would suggest that you opt for a soft spring tension. The Artisan Luxury can have the spring tension selected to suit the body weight and comes with the softest upholstery layers in that range, making it ideal for side sleepers such as yourself, but we do have very light customers like yourself, who are looking for a very soft bed and they can’t find them as they don’t really exist.

We think that the comments by other retailers that they haven’t heard of us is not correct, as we have been trading for ten years and we think that they just don’t want to acknowledge us as competitors.

With regard to the 60 day “love it or return it” guarantee, we do our very best to match the customer to the product and in 96% of cases we get this spot on, which is why we are confident to offer this guarantee.

We trust that the above helps, but if you require any further advice or guidance, please call our office on 0161 437 4419.

Kind Regards Gary
