TAKE OUR MATTRESS QUIZ

Pressure points

Ken Jeffrey asked

Hello, Could you advise me on purchasing a new king size mattress. I have persuaded my wife to get rid of our memory foam mattress. I hated it from the beginning. My problem is my lower legs. Over the past 2 years (approximately) I have lost the hair on my legs on the outer side of each calf. Not the front of my calves. I also have developed a mild form of eczema on a small patch on each calf that comes and goes. My calves mirror each other where the hair loss and redness occurs. I am convinced the friction and the way much of my body weight seems to rest on my calves is responsible. I am 15 stone and no other part of my body has been affected. I have attempted to find out information on this but the info seems to address bad circulation and eating habits. Neither apply to me. How do I find a mattress that will distribute my weight in a way to avoid this. Sorry this must seem an unusual question but any advice would be gratefully appreciated.

Hi Ken,

Thank you for your enquiry, we are sorry to hear of your calf problems.

When selecting a mattress you need to make sure that the spring tension selected is going to provide the right level of support for your body weight. In your case, you should be looking at a medium spring tension. The next consideration should be what kind of feel you require, which will be provided by the upholstery layers. By getting these two things right, you should avoid sleeping in a position which is putting undue pressure on any particular part of your body.

Although memory foam is marketed as moulding to your body, the reality is that it does not necessarily provide the right level of support and it is clear, from our experience, that one type fits all is incorrect.

We hope that the above is of help and would suggest that you call our office on 0161 437 4419 to obtain  specific advice as to the suitability of one of our products for you.

Kind regards.
