Problem Marquis bed

Michaela asked
15th September 2015

Hi John.
As an update to our problem Marquis bed, the chap from Harrison Spinks has visited us and he believes the matteress is again faulty. He also suggested that Somuns pride themselves on sumptuous comfort to the extent that the springs in the matteress are supported by a further 1000 springs in the sprung edged base. He felt that this degree of sumptuousness was working against me because I am 18st 12 lb and was contributing to the failure of the matteress. As previously stated we have paid £2500 and expected to have a very comfortable and durable sleep system. The retailer told us the bed could take 22 stone on each side and when I suggested this to the Harrison Spinks chap he neither confirmed or denied, just suggested that the comfort factor of the beds was leading to the failure.
He is writing this up as a faulty bed but suggested that all we could do was to speak to the retailer. I am now in a quandary as to what to do. I suggested zip able singles but his suggestion was that this was no good unless we went for Super Kingsize as Kingsize singles would be too small. I am wondering whether we should move away from Somnus and scrape the money together for a Vi Spring, but am frightened that it might happen again!!! Oh one more thing, the inspector suggested that we put a board under the matteress between it and the base so that we could get a firmer feel. Is this a suggestion that has merit, or is it just rubbish? Thank you for any advice you can give
Kind Regards

Hi Michaela,

Thanks for your comments.

I am pleased that you have had positive outcome to the visit from Harrison Spinks but am sorry to note that you have not actually resolved the issue.

Placing a board between the base and the mattress will firm up the mattress slightly, and may temporarily resolve any dipping issue. We generally recommend MDF, plywood or pegboard to be placed on the base if it is slatted as this will protect from indentation and damage.

Whilst I appreciate that you might not want to stretch to the price of a Super King Size Vi-Spring Zip and Link set, please view our Artisan range, some of which are comparable to some of the Vi-Spring models in terms of feel, but are considerably less expensive.

Please see the article here for our comparison models.

We would need to know your preference for feel in the top layers to discuss suitable models as well as sleeping habits as that factors into the mattress you purchase. I.e, side sleepers should avoid anything too firm and front sleepers should avoid anything too soft.

At your body weight we would match you with a Firm spring tension to get the right level of support;

BodyweightSpring tension
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kgMedium (1.4mm)
16 Stone / 101kg UpwardsFirm (1.6mm)
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call)Soft (1.2mm)

I hope this has answered your questions fully but if you do have any further queries please don’t hesitate to contact our office on 0161 437 4419.

Kind Regards, Lee.
