Problems with mattress dipping after a week

Mr Smith asked
19th November 2013

Hi, please help.

We have a metal bedstead with a sprung wooden slatted base.

We have just purchased an expensive new mattress from a well known supplier as our old mattress was 12 years old and was becoming uncomfortable.

When we were choosing the mattress, we asked the sales assistant if the chosen mattress was suitable for our bedstead and I even showed him a similar one in the store, he confirmed it was suitable.

We chose a Bespoke collection 2,500 Pocket Sprung with deluxe topper, We have only used this mattress for a week and already there is a sag in the middle.

The retailer want to send out an inspector as they are trying to blame the base.

Any advice appreciated.

Hi Mr Smith,

Thank you for your question.

Unfortunately without a model name I would only be second guessing as to what has obviously gone wrong with your mattress.  I am also not sure if the mattress has an inbuilt topper [Read Here] or if the topper was separate?

We as a Company know that a sprung slatted base can cause problems for a mattress causing a ridge to appear but it is not something that would happen after just one week.

A fault in a mattress is normally when a dip appears in the mattress that is over 1.5 inches which is why it is always best to purchase a mattress that can be turned and rotated in order to allow the fillings to settle evenly.  If the mattress you have purchased has a topper that is fixed to the mattress, this would mean that the mattress is only one sided and can only be rotated round halving the lifespan of the mattress.

Having an inspection of the mattress is the only way to establish as to whether the mattress has failed in such a short time.

I hope the above is of assistance to you but if you require further information or advice, please telephone our office on 0161 437 4419.

Kind regards Julie.
