Re extra information

Hi R asked

Hi
Thankyou for your reply. I wrote explaining how I am waking up with lower back pain and didn’t give you all the info.
https://johnryanbydesign.co.uk/understanding-beds/question/backache-early-morning/
The mattress I described came from John Lewis and cost £900. Also my wife and I both weigh around 12 stone. My wife says she prefers a softer mattress as she has bursitis in her hip and thigh, would we be better with a split mattress. You recommend the artisan 1500 pocket sprung would that be better than a latex mattress or are they quite hot like the memory foam one we tried. We have spent £1500 in the last two years on mattresses so we want to get it right this time.
Thanks again Richard

Hi Richard & Linda,

Thank you for providing the additional information. With your body weights a medium tension mattress should be ideal. We do not recommend mattresses with attached toppers, known as pillow top mattresses, because there is a tendency for the topper part to flatten and as it is not detachable, you cannot rejuvenate by fluffing or turning, all of which has an effect on the longevity of a mattress.

The description of the mattress from John Lewis in somewhat vague in that although it discloses components/upholstery elements, this is not in the form of GSM (grams per square metre) meaning that it is impossible to provide an opinion as to performance and suitability. Having said that, it is clearly not right for you both. Latex does not retain heat like memory foam, but if you are used to a naturally upholstered mattress, the feel is completely different and can take some time to get used to.

The recommended Artisan 1500 in a medium tension should provide the support you both need with the comfort of the upholstery layers. As far as a topper is concerned, I would advise that you use the new mattress for at least 14 days before deciding whether one is actually necessary, as it could be an unnecessary expense. We have a 30 day “love it or return it” guarantee with all our products and although this is not a try before you buy option, it does provide some peace of mind when purchasing over the internet. We endeavour to match the customer to the product and in 96% of cases we get this spot on, which is why we are confident to offer this guarantee.

I trust that the above is of some help, but if you require any further advice or information, please do not hesitate to call our office.

Kind regards
